A performance ensemble devoted to keeping the spirit and tradition of color guard alive.
History
Luminosa Winterguard, based in Buffalo as part of the North East Color Guard Circuit, was founded in 2011 by Cindy Herburger and Sheri Bentley. Their mission was to create a group of talented young adults to foster athletic and creative growth. Along with their creative mission, from 2012 to 2017 the group set out to raise money for local and national charities, including the Buffalo Women and Children’s Hospital, the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Buffalo, and The Wounded Warrior Project. Their efforts raised about $5000 total.
Luminosa started in the Independent A class in 2011 with their show titled “Enter My Dream”. In 2012 and 2013 Luminosa received 4th and 1st place respectively in WGI Independent A World Finals. The 2012 season ending with a score of 94.20 and 2013 with 95.07. For the 2014, 2015, and 2016 seasons Luminosa moved into the Independent Open class. At the 2015 NECGC Championships, Cindy Herburger was inducted into the NECGC Hall of Fame, followed by Shari Bentley in 2016. All this culminating in their 2017 season where they were once again promoted to the Independent World class. Luminosa did not field a group in 2018 or 2019.
Luminosa came back stronger than ever in the local Senior class with an all ages guard for the 2020 season. Before the season was canceled due to global pandemic, the guard had much success in the North East Color Guard Circuit. Luminosa again returned in 2022 with an undefeated season, scoring an 86.80 and was awarded NECGC’s Bruce McCready Sportsmanship Award.
In 2023, Luminosa returned to their roots and set out to raise money for the PKD Foundation. The organization was able to donate $1500 in May of 2023.
We continue to work and grow, and cannot wait to see what the future has in store.
